Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon walkthrough Strategy Guide now available here for the Wii!
In this triquel of the Legend of Spyro trilogy. This is one of those examples of franchises that are reinvented and since returning to the new consoles, they have made a valid attempt to making this series stronger and more worthy of playing. In Dawn of the Dragon, Etranges Libellulestries - a French based developer) made some nice new additions to the controls, visually appealing and epic level design, music score, cooperative playing advancements and many more updates. Since the previous 2 games where a bit melancholy, this is a refreshing resurrection and perhaps an unexpected addition to the seemingly failing series.
Understanding that other website reviews state that this game is not much better than 'fair' or mediocre (per gamespot), but the enhancement of the hero's functionalities along with the backwardly similar pre-existing and equal control set you may have learned on the previous titles is only polished, refined, and given new life. However I think the other reviewers main issue is the fact that this (like many series franchises) is a game that you'd be better off having knowledge ofthe other ones first, at least since the rebirth of the new console versions since it's been a bit like a new set of stories, otherwise having Dawn of the Dragon might perplex you and you wouldn't really be familiar with what is going on in this new adventure. In my opinion though, it's a really great way for the likes of Sierra to get there 3 titles some replay and sales time during a busy holiday season. Especially when the sales of said items has been minimal, if barely acceptable or profitable to begin with.
Further issues with gameplay is that combat can become monotonous and repetitive. I have this to say about that statement. Sarcasm: "Um, what video game have you played that isn't repetitive?" If you cannot learn a specific strategy to build upon when attacking your ever expanding intelligence and sophisticated foes, then what kind of game would this be? They have also complained about the level design being to big and that you might get lost from time to time. Sarcasm: "Oh. Really? You mean you can actually 'explore'? Gee, that's so horrible, I would MUCH rather have someone holding my hand and telling me how to play so I knew what to do and didn't have to think. This is after all a kids game, and they wouldn't want to have to help them or babysit them." Please. The game website authors are so overly biased in a negative wayon these games, they must forget that these games actually ARE designed for children and that when you give them bad reviews based on the gameplay being too simple, and story structure not being interesting enough for the 39 year old reviewer in Madison Park, well, they really have dropped the ball on what a game review is supposed to be about haven't they?
In addition, the end user (namely children and some teens) will be delighted with this quest with Spyro and Cynder who must stop the Dark Master from spreading evil across the land. You will find yourself taking different directions based on your own choices after completing areas. A refreshing addition to the previous setup in the other two titles. The adventure itself is very fun and still difficultsince you can switch between the two characters. It is a very remarkable puzzler at times, trying to figure out which characters pattern of skills is desired to carry out the chapter. It kind of reminds me of the way Tak and the Power of Juju or that series was designed, especially when it comes to the co-op play mechanics.
In conclusion, the series has ended with a very nice addition and making a game that can be remembered amongst teens and adults alike (as long as they aren't big conglomerate video game company reviewers that is). The visually interesting lure of this game, along with the exceptional efforts to graphic design and a much more interesting storyline is more than enough to entertain and appeal to most audiences.
